The TomTom GO 940 LIVE has plug & play connectivity built in, and comes with a number of valuable information services for motorists.
? TomTom High Definition Traffic? service for the most accurate and current traffic information en route, now available for the first time in the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, as well as in the Netherlands.
? TomTom Safety Alerts including real-time safety camera reporting and sharing, meaning users can keep each other informed about mobile safety cameras. Safety alerts in the UK will be supplied by Road Angel.
? TomTom Fuel Prices: up-to-date fuel price information guides users to the cheapest fuel stations along their routes or in their area.
? TomTom unlocks the power of online Local Search with Google. It turns search results into a destination with the press of a button. This gives users access to millions of locations.

TomTom GO x40 LIVE range
The new TomTom GO x40 LIVE series features three models; the TomTom GO 940 LIVE, TomTom GO 740 LIVE and TomTom GO 540 LIVE*. Each comes with an iconic flat design and a new, high-quality user interface with optimised icons for even easier navigation through the device menu.

All products come with TomTom?s wide range of award-winning navigation features, including IQ Routes, HD Traffic as part of LIVE Services and TomTom Map Share - TomTom?s unique map improvement technology. The improved advanced lane guidance feature now gives drivers clear instructions at complex junctions.

The new Active Dock incorporates a system connector, so the device can be semi-integrated into the car, while ensuring easy docking and charging.

With safety in mind, the TomTom GO LIVE series now also features voice command and control in addition to existing safety options, providing customers with more safety features than any other navigation device. For the first time, users can plan a route or make a phone call just using their voice. More than 100 tasks can be activated by voice, so drivers can keep their eyes focused on the road ahead.

Map Coverage

− TomTom GO 940 LIVE comes pre-installed with the most up-to-date seamless maps of 35 countries in Western & Eastern Europe, USA, Canada and Russia with maximum detail stored on the internal memory.

The innovative IQ Routes? technology is based on real average speeds measured on roads, rather than static maximum speeds per road type. This means the new TomTom GO range determines a route by considering all possible routes and then selecting the one that takes the least time. In almost 50% of all journeys, this results in driving a different and faster route, saving significant travel time as well as saving money and fuel.

In addition, the new TomTom GO 940 LIVE features Advanced Lane Guidance, a first for the navigation mass market. Advanced Lane Guidance gives drivers a more realistic view and enhanced visual instructions of drivers? surroundings, ensuring they are better informed about the situation ahead.

IQ Routes?

?With the introduction of IQ Routes? technology, we continue to focus our efforts on features and content that improve the core navigation experience?, says Harold Goddijn, TomTom?s chief executive officer. ?Everyone knows that traffic on Sunday is different to traffic on Monday and this is exactly what has been taken into account on the new TomTom GO. IQ Routes? delivers what we call ?intelligent routing? ? an even smarter and efficient way of planning your daily route.?

A fundamental breakthrough in navigation
TomTom IQ Routes?
To date, TomTom is the world?s only navigation solutions provider that calculates routes based on historical travel time information. IQ Routes are more accurate and deliver the routes that well-informed locals would travel, making them feel more intuitive. The extended IQ Routes technology is now based on travel time information for every day of the week with a five minute interval. The travel time data are stored in Historical Speed Profiles, one for every road segment, from large motorways to small local roads. Historic Speed Profiles are part of the digital map and updated with every new map release. They give a unique insight into real world traffic patterns.
In approximately 50% of all cases, the use of IQ Routes results in driving a different and faster route, saving significant travel time as well as saving money and fuel. TomTom IQ Routes? is the only fact based routing system based on measured travel times.
All other routing systems are based on travel time assumptions.
TomTom HD Traffic?
Nearly all traffic information systems use data that are collected with so called ?road side equipment?; cameras, induction loops and other systems that are based on the deployment of a physical infrastructure. Those systems are expensive, both to install and to maintain. The result is that traffic information is only available on the busiest road segments in most countries.

TomTom?s HD Traffic service works differently. It is based on the anonymous measurements of ordinary mobile phones moving through the network. A significant proportion of mobile phones on the move are in cars. Analysis of these results gives accurate traffic information for all major and secondary roads. The HD Traffic service is further enhanced with information from TomTom users who wish to share their travel time information anonymously with other users. This contributes to the accuracy and granularity of this unique service. It gives a much more accurate traffic information resource than traditional systems and for much larger territories. In addition it?s economical to deploy.

This expansion of HD Traffic marks an important step in the realisation of a superior, pan-European traffic information service.

Combining TomTom IQ Routes with HD Traffic
The combination of TomTom IQ Routes and HD Traffic delivers unbeatable route guidance. If the real-time traffic information differs with what would be expected based on Historical Speed Profiles, the device automatically takes this into account. This means it continuously evaluates faster alternative routes.

In areas where HD Traffic is not yet deployed, Historical Speed Profiles provided by IQ Routes, give a substantial improvement in guidance on its own.

Let?s take an example:
The standard shortest route from London Commercial Road, to Gloucester Terrace at a relatively quiet time, and without any hold-ups, should take you 20 minutes (screen 1).

However, that same shortest route will typically take you 29 minutes during a busier period (reality) (screen 2).
Using ?local knowledge? gained from the actual travel experiences of thousands of TomTom users on these very roads, IQ Routes? instantly works out your optimal route from London Commercial Road, to Gloucester Terrace. It also calculates your realistic journey time, based on real speeds people are able to drive, not just speed limits. (screen 3)

As you can see, in this case your route is now 0.7 kilometre longer, but will save you 3 minutes (and a good deal of stress!). Now that?s a shortcut!
How it works
Millions of TomTom users worldwide voluntarily provide us with anonymous historical speed-data from each of their journeys every time they connect their device to TomTom HOME .

As a result, TomTom now has a huge database, containing billions of miles of real customer driving experience, collected over the years from more than 7 million TomTom users.

Using this data, TomTom?s unique IQ Routes? technology calculates your optimal route. This route is based on actual speed data driven on roads, not just maximum speed limits, taking into account any hold-ups that might slow you down (busy junctions, zebra crossings and even shopping crowds).

This data enhances the quality of TomTom navigation across the board, but is particularly helpful in improving the quality of detailed routing we give you for the specific time of day and day of the week of your chosen trip.

Advanced Lane Guidance

With the new Advanced Lane Guidance feature, navigating difficult junctions becomes easier than ever before. The realistic representation of highway junctions on the screen including clear arrows indicating the lane direction, provide drivers with timely instructions to take the correct lane. Static images of road signs, in the same colour as the ones displayed on the road ensure drivers have an even better overview of their surroundings.

You have your normal 3D navigation view up to 800 metres from the junction.

From 800 meters until you?re through the junction, your TomTom device displays a clear image of the junction. This shows the relevant road signs with numbers and directions, and a blinking arrow that clearly shows which lane you must take. Your screen throughout this has the still image and your status bar remains updated with dynamic information.
